Kim Young

School Social Work

Kim Young, LISW, is a Social Worker who joined Designs for Learning in 2026. She earned her undergraduate degree from the College of Saint Scholastic and her master’s in social work from the University of Minnesota. Between undergrad and graduate school, Kim lived in a small town in Mexico, caring for children at an orphanage.

Kim has spent most of her career finding permanency for youth in foster care and adopted placements.  Kim has worked with youth and families in a variety of other settings, including in schools, homeless shelters, and career and college readiness.  Kim is excited to be back in the schools doing direct work with our young students!

Outside of work, Kim enjoys spending time with her two girls.  She and her girls continue with their goal to visit all 63 National Parks. She cares for her mental health by running marathons and biking as far into winter as possible.  In the summer months, she exercises her competitiveness on the softball field.
